Reza Ardakanian (*1958 in Iran) holds a PhD in water resources management. He is a faculty member of Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) and a former Deputy Minister for Water Affairs in the Ministry of Energy of Iran.
Dr. Ardakanian sat on the Boards of various international organizations such as UNESCO-IHP, UNESCO-IHE, the International Hydropower Association and UNU-EHS.
Since 2007 he is serving UN-Water as Founding Director of the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC), and in October 2012 he was appointed as the Founding Director of the new United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES) in Dresden.
